MusicForTheSea at
Science Summit 2025
along United Nations General Assembly 2025
We are honored to announce that Coco Francavilla, founder of MusicForTheSea, has been invited to speak at the upcoming Science Summit at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).
Coco will be joining a panel of leading experts in ocean policy, law, conservation, and environmental justice for an official session titled:
Centering Multispecies Justice in the Blue Economy to Address the Ocean–Climate–Biodiversity Crisis
📅 Date: 18 September 2025
🕗 Time: 8:00–10:00 AM (EST)
📍 Online | Science Summit 2025
About the Session
Organized by Lancaster University, the session brings together international speakers from academia, civil society, and environmental organizations to explore how to make the blue economy more inclusive and ethical — not only for humans, but for all species that depend on the ocean.
Using the lens of multispecies blue justice, the discussion focuses on how to better integrate nature, climate, and biodiversity into marine development, and how to uphold the rights of both coastal communities and marine life in a time of accelerating ocean exploitation.
Representing our UN Ocean Decade-endorsed action, Coco will present:
Posidonia Soundscapes (Conservation & Music, Ibiza) – Integrating Underwater Acoustics and Music for Marine Conservation in the Mediterranean
A transdisciplinary project co-developed with INMAR (University of Cádiz) and Ocean World of Sound, and the support of Mediterreanen Posidonia Network using the power of sound to reconnect people with the ocean — and contribute to protect vital ecosystems like Posidonia oceanica in Ibiza and the Mediterranean.
This talk explores how sound — both scientific and artistic — can deepen our connection with the ocean. Through underwater acoustic research and creative sonic practices, Posidonia Soundscapes invites us to listen to the sea in new ways, amplifying the voices of endangered marine ecosystems such as the Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows of Ibiza and the Mediterranean.
