SAT. MAY 17th & SUN. MAY 18th | 10am-5pm
Immersive Experience at Sea
aboard 25m zero-emission sailboat Galaxie

Join us aboard the 25-meter zero-emission sailboat Galaxie LoveTheMediterranean for an immersvie experience merging science, music, sound, and community.
We’ll sail the Ibiza coastline alongside marine scientists & underwater acoustic experts from the UNESCO project Ocean World of Sound (Cancún, Mexico) and the University of Cádiz, exploring how sound can help us better understand and protect our Ocean.
Through real-time hydrophone listening, we’ll hear the voice of the Mediterranean Sea—while discovering the magic of Posidonia oceanica, a vital and ancient underwater forest known as the Lungs of the Mediterranean.

This is not just a boat trip.
It’s a sound journey to reconnect with the Ocean.
A call to listen, feel, learn, and to protect the Sea we love.

Why Posidonia

Posidonia oceanica is a Mediterranean seagrass species that plays a crucial role in marine ecosystems:

  • It creates dense underwater meadows that serve as nurseries for marine life

  • It stabilizes the seabed and protects coastlines from erosion

  • It captures and stores carbon at rates far higher than terrestrial forests

  • It releases oxygen and keeps the waters of Ibiza clear and turquoise

Because of its sensitivity, Posidonia also serves as an early indicator of ocean health and water quality. Ibiza’s meadows are so important they have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As part of the broader Posidonia Soundscapes initiative, this experience introduces the public to the power of Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) as a tool for ocean conservation and safeguard of Posidonia.
By listening to the sounds of the sea, we begin to understand the health of our marine ecosystems.

About the Hosts

This experience is part of Posidonia Soundscapes, a collaborative initiative that unites science, sound, and community action to safeguard Posidonia oceanica — a vital seagrass species recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage for its role in protecting Mediterranean biodiversity and storing carbon.

MusicForTheSea
An Ibiza-based nonprofit bridging music and marine conservation. Through artist residencies, ocean fieldwork, and sound-based storytelling, it fosters public engagement and ocean literacy.

Ocean World of Sound (WOS)
A UN Ocean Decade-endorsed project that uses underwater acoustics and citizen science to monitor and protect marine ecosystems. WOS brings field expertise from the Mesoamerican Reef and the Maldives.

INMAR – University of Cádiz
A Mediterranean leader in marine science, INMAR supports the project with academic research and acoustic protocols, including expertise in Passive Acoustic Monitoring.
