Hydrophone Deployment in Ibiza & Formentera
Phase 1 of the Posidonia Soundscapes project began in the waters of Ibiza and Formentera, working closely with the Institute of Marine Research (INMAR, University of Cádiz) and Ocean World of Sound, with the support of the Posidonia Surveillance Service of the Balearic Government and LoveTheMediterrenan Galaxie zero-emission boat. Together with marine scientists and local experts, underwater hydrophones were deployed in selected locations within the Formentera Marine Park and the Bay of Talamanca in Ibiza, covering both well-preserved Posidonia meadows and areas more affected by human activity.
This first phase forms part of Posidonia Soundscapes, an ongoing project endorsed by the United Nations Ocean Decade (UNESCO). Phase 1 focuses on initial hydrophone deployment and baseline acoustic recordings, creating a reference point for future research while also informing the artistic and educational work connected to the project.
