Artist Residency: Rafael Anton Irisarri
Rafael Anton Irisarri, a composer and sound artist, joined Music For The Sea for an artist residency in Ibiza focused on listening and field recording.
His approach is grounded in close attention to place and duration, allowing sound to unfold through time rather than directing it. During the residency, time was spent walking and listening across the island, with particular focus on the northern coastline and the cliffs above Moon Beach. From these elevated points, recordings were made of wind, water, and distant movement, capturing how sound travels across open space.
The residency formed part of Posidonia Soundscapes, a long-term project endorsed by the United Nations Ocean Decade (UNESCO). These listening sessions emphasised patience and observation, exploring how landscape, scale, and distance shape the way sound is perceived, and allowing the island itself to guide the work.
