Through Art, Sound & Science

An official off-site event
2025 United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3)
TIDAL SHIFTS, presented through a transdisciplinary collaboration of partners, is an immersive exhibition and symposium bridging ocean science, sound, art, and community action to foster Ocean Literacy and public engagement. Inviting participants to explore the Ocean as a source of wonder, intercultural dialogue, and shared responsibility, this initiative is co-created to support Challenge 10 of the UN Ocean Decade — restoring humanity’s relationship with the Ocean — and contributes to SDG 14 and the global goal to protect 30% of marine environments by 2030.

TIDAL SHIFTS takes place at NEO Gallery, a contemporary art space in Nice’s Port district—just steps from the UNOC3 Blue Zone and a 10-minute walk from the Palais des Congrès (Green Zone). Throughout the week, the gallery will host a wide range of activities open to all.
In addition to immersive installations and audiovisual works, the program features daily panels, community discussions, film screenings, and sound-based experiences that connect ocean science with art, culture, and public dialogue.
Bringing together artists, researchers, educators, and youth voices, TIDAL SHIFTS offers a space to explore how creative collaboration can contribute to marine conservation and recognize the Ocean as a source of knowledge, connection, and wonder.

Unite for Nature – An IUCN Reception at UNOC3
RECEPTION
Presented by: IUCN
If you are an IUCN constituent, please join IUCN for a special reception as we come together to protect our one ocean for future generations.
The IUCN Red List reveals that over 40% of coral species and one-third of sharks, rays, and chimaeras face extinction. But there is hope—Marine Protected Areas and cutting-edge conservation science show that we can safeguard marine biodiversity. 3D

An Inspiring Voyage to the Legendary Juan Fernandez Archipelago: A Short Film Premiere by National Geographic Photographer Andy Mann
FILM PREMIERE & COCKTAIL

National Geographic photography Andy Mann will be there to present his unreleased short film alongside members from the Robinson Crusoe Island community. Exciting global announcements will be made by project partners Island Conservation, Blue Marine Foundation, and the Pew Environment Legacy Foundation.

Ghosts of the Caribbean: Coral Bleaching on the Mesoamerican Reef
AUDIOVISUAL INSTALLATION
Presented by: Ocean World of Sound
During a bleaching event corals expel the symbiotic micro-algae that give them colour and nutrients, leaving them colorless. Ocean World of Sound (WOS) has tracked these changes through a network of underwater listening stations and 3-D photogrammetry surveys. This installation displays 3-D models of affected coral colonies captured in Puerto Morelos a few months after the bleaching event.

Carbon in the Current: Contrasting Futures for Our Changing Ocean
DIGITAL ANIMATION (ongoing)
Presented by: OA Alliance
In Collaboration with: PangeaSeed & ETH Zurich
A 3D digital artistic animation conveying the impact of climate change on our ocean.
Carbon in the Current draws upon the ETH Zurich Ocean Acidification Stripes, an innovative project which uses a stunning spectrum of colorful stripes to visually represent the rapid rate of change in ocean acidification recorded by global and regional observations over the past 40 years. Art makes science relatable, memorable, and motivational. By combining them, we aim to make the unseen impacts of climate-ocean change seen and emotionally felt.
