TIDAL SHIFTS, presented through a transdisciplinary collaboration of partners, is an immersive exhibition and symposium bridging ocean science, sound, art, and community action to foster Ocean Literacy and public engagement. Inviting participants to explore the Ocean as a source of wonder, intercultural dialogue, and shared responsibility, this initiative is co-created to support Challenge 10 of the UN Ocean Decade — restoring humanity’s relationship with the Ocean — and contributes to SDG 14 and the global goal to protect 30% of marine environments by 2030.

TIDAL SHIFTS takes place at NEO Gallery, a contemporary art space in Nice’s Port district—just steps from the UNOC3 Blue Zone and a 10-minute walk from the Palais des Congrès (Green Zone). Throughout the week, the gallery will host a wide range of activities open to all.
In addition to immersive installations and audiovisual works, the program features daily panels, community discussions, film screenings, and sound-based experiences that connect ocean science with art, culture, and public dialogue.
Bringing together artists, researchers, educators, and youth voices, TIDAL SHIFTS offers a space to explore how creative collaboration can contribute to marine conservation and recognize the Ocean as a source of knowledge, connection, and wonder.

Walls that Talk: Murals as Agents of Ocean Literacy & Change

This panel explores how public art, particularly large-scale murals, can make ocean issues visible, emotional, and urgent. Through a conversation with artists, institutional leaders, and creative changemakers, we’ll dive into how place-based storytelling fosters ocean literacy, inspires interdisciplinary collaboration, and builds community connection.

Listening to the Cryosphere

Listening to the Cryosphere is a live immersive experience where glaciers are given a voice. Through a soundscape woven from authentic field recordings, ranging from deep seismic vibrations to the gentle, soothing ambiences of melting waters, the project reveals the many voices of the cryosphere.

Re-Oceaning: A Sonic Journey of Reconnection with the Ocean

Re-Oceaning is a call to reconnect with the Ocean through sound, memory, and deep listening. Inspired by the idea that water is our first sensory memory, Re-Oceaning invites us to listen back, to reawaken our connection to the Ocean, and to remember that we are not separate from it. We all come from the water. It holds our earliest rhythm, our first breath. We are shaped by it, sustained by it, and responsible for protecting it.
